Notification Note on COVID-19 Situational Update June-7

The total laboratory tests conducted within 24 hours are 6,092; of these eighty-six (86) of them are confirmed positive for COVID-19 and the total confirmed cases as of today are 2020. Among the confirmed cases, 51 of them are male and 35 are female and their age ranges from 7 to 82 years. All of the confirmed cases are Ethiopian citizens. Among the cases, sixty-six (66) of them are identified from Addis Ababa, seven (7) from Oromia region, seven (7) from Tigray, four (4) from SNNPR, one (1) from Amhara region and one (1) from Dire Dawa city administration.

Unfortunately, seven Ethiopians have passed away related to COVID-19 including the mother who recently gave birth at Eka Kotebe hospital while under treatment for COVID-19. This brings the total death related to COVID-19 in our country to twenty-seven (27). We would like to pass our condolences to the families. The details of the deaths are presented below.

Furthermore, sixty-three (63) people (46 from Addis Ababa, 13 from Somali region, 3 from Oromia region and 1 from Amhara region) recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries 344.

The laboratory samples were collected from the high-risk community members, returnees/passengers at mandatory quarantine centers, contacts of the confirmed cases, health facility visitors and suspects at isolation centers.

  • Within the last seven days a total of 848 COVID-19 cases and 16 COVID-19 related deaths were reported.
  • However, we are observing gaps in applying COVI-19 preventive measures among the public.
  • Therefore, all community members, regions, city administrations, sectors and other responsible bodies should take the spread of the pandemic into consideration and implement all the necessary preventive measures and actions by engaging communities.
