The total laboratory tests conducted within 24 hours are 5500; of these one-hundred-twenty-nine (129) of them are confirmed positive for COVID-19 and the total confirmed cases as of today are 1,934. Among the confirmed cases, 75 of them are male and 54 are female and their age ranges from 1 to 90 years. One-hundred-twenty-four of the confirmed cases are Ethiopians and the remaining are South African, United Arab Emirates, United States, Eritrean and Sudanese citizen. Among the cases, one-hundred-one (101) of them are identified from Addis Ababa, ten (10) from Amhara region, six (6) from Somali region, five (5) from Tigray, five (5) from Oromia region, one (1) from Harari region and one (1) from Gambella region.
Health professionals and support staff who are taking the lead in exemplary service to prevent, control, and protect the health of the community deserve the respect and gratitude.
Health institutions are required to implement a strong infection prevention and control system to keep their employees safe. To this end, precautions needs to be started from the entrance triage and a structural adjustment should be considered to ensure infection prevention for the staff. In addition, they must protect their staff by providing essential PPE materials to workers and identifying gaps in knowledge providing capacity building.
Health professionals and support staff at all levels should also take necessary precautions in all areas, at all times and under all circumstances with their interactions with patients, colleagues and other people.
Unfortunately, an 80 years old Ethiopian female from Addis Ababa has passed away and her results have turned out positive for COVID-19. She came to the hospital due to medical problems and passed away with in one hour of arrival. The dead body tested COVID-19 and result turned out positive. This brings the total death related to COVID-19 in our country to twenty (20). Ministry of Health and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute would like to pass its condolences to the families.
Furthermore, nineteen (19) people (2 from Tigray region, 6 from Afar region, 1 from Somali region and 10 from Addis Ababa) recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries 281.
The laboratory samples were collected from the high-risk community members, returnees/passengers at mandatory quarantine centers, contacts of the confirmed cases, health facility visitors and suspects at isolation centers.
