Notification Note on COVID-19 Situational Update June-5

The total laboratory tests conducted within 24 hours are 5798; of these one-hundred-sixty-nine (169) of them are confirmed positive for COVID-19 and the total confirmed cases as of today are 1,805. Among the confirmed cases, 111 of them are male and 58 are female and their age ranges from 1 to 79 years. One-hundred-sixty-eight of the confirmed cases are Ethiopians and one is a United States citizen. Among the cases, one-hundred-thirty-eight (138) of them are identified from Addis Ababa, four (4) from Tigray, eleven (11) from Oromia region, four (4) from SNNPR, six (6) from Amhara region, one (1) from Harari region and five (5) from Somali region.

The above laboratory test results show that COVID-19 cases are increasing rapidly due to the presence of community transmission. The number of cases that have no travel history to abroad and no known contact with a confirmed case have been increasing in Addis Ababa as well as other regions. Anyone of us can be the next person to acquire COVID-19, but we can prevent it if we act now. Therefore, Let’s support one another in this pandemic reminding others of the recommended behaviors could save their lives. We need to practice all of the COVID-19 prevention methods in order to stay alive and healthy.

Unfortunately, A 35 years old Ethiopian female has passed away and her results have turned out positive for COVID-19. The dead body taken to health facility for forensic investigation and sample was tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total death related to COVID-19 in our country to nineteen (19). Ministry of Health and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute would like to pass its condolences to the families.

Furthermore, twelve (12) people (10 from Amhara region and 2 from Benishangul Gumuz region) recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries 262.

The laboratory samples were collected from the high-risk community members, returnees/passengers at mandatory quarantine centers, contacts of the confirmed cases, health facility visitors and suspects at isolation centers.
