The total laboratory tests conducted within 24 hours are 6630; of these one-hundred-sixty-four (164) of them are confirmed positive for COVID-19 and the total confirmed cases as of today are 2670. Among the confirmed cases, of 117 them are male and 47 are female and their age ranges from 1 to 92 years. One-hundred-sixty-three of the confirmed cases are Ethiopians and one is a foreign citizen. Among the cases, one-hundred-four (104) of them are identified from Addis Ababa, twenty-six (26) from Somali region, twenty-two (22) from Amhara region, four (4) from Tigray, four (4) from SNNPR region, two (2) from Oromia region, one (1) from Harari and one (1) from Benishangul-Gumuz region.
It has been three months since the first person who acquired COVID-19 has been reported in Ethiopia. In the first two months the number of people who acquired the virus were 250. But in the last one-month 2420 people have tested positive for COVID-19. This is a 10-fold increase to the number of cases reported in the first two months.
Therefore, considering the amplified spread of the outbreak everyone should take extra precautions. Prevention is better than cure, staying home is better than being admitted to hospitals, face mask is better than mechanical ventilator. Therefore, we should be alert and practice these and other precautionary measures to protect ourselves and loved ones from COVID-19.
Unfortunately, five Ethiopians have passed away in relation to COVID-19. This brings the total death related to COVID-19 in our country to forty (40). We would like to pass our condolences to the families. The details of the deaths are presented below.
