Notification Note on COVID-19 Situational Update June-19

The total laboratory tests conducted within 24 hours are 4809; of these one-hundred-sixteen (116) of them are confirmed positive for COVID-19 and the total confirmed cases as of today are 4,070. Among the confirmed cases, 76 of them are male and 40 are female and their age ranges from 3 to 78 years old. All of the confirmed cases are Ethiopians. Among the cases, 101 of them are identified from Addis Ababa, 6 from Oromia region, 4 from SNNP region, 1 from Gambella region, 1 from Amhara region, 1 from Tigray region, 1 from Dire Dawa city administration and 1 from Afar region.

Among the total laboratory tests conducted, 37 (24 from health facility and 13 from community) of them were from samples collected from dead bodies of which one from community and one from health facility tested positive for COVID-19. Additionally, five people that were in treatment center have passed away. This brings the total death related to COVID-19 in our country to seventy-two (72). We would like to pass our condolences to the families. The details of the deaths are presented below.

Furthermore, ninety-three (93) people (88 from Addis Ababa, 2 from Amhara region, 2 from Somali region and 1 from Oromia region) recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,027.

Since there is community transmission of COVID-19 all burials/funerals should be done with limited family members, observing all necessary precautions and avoiding mass gatherings. Let’s all protect others by following all necessary measures!

The laboratory samples were collected from the high-risk community members, returnees/passengers at mandatory quarantine centers, contacts of the confirmed cases, health facility visitors and suspects at isolation centers.
